sidney poitier - the legend

i just have to see sidney poitier & i start to cry! this is not just eyes misting over when you come across someone of this stature... it is proper, full-blown boo-hoo-hoo... i mean rivers! i find him a truly larger than life persona & what he is & where & what he has come from, moves me to tears.

people who know me well, know that it doesn't take much to make me cry... i'm the queen of tears! everybody cries when they are sad. but i; i cry more when i'm angry, helpless, frustrated; any emotion of mine brings me to tears, i guess:-(

but coming back to our hero of the moment, mr. poitier. i have seen him on oprah... & you guessed right, i was crying then too. i watched a movie, "a patch of blue" in 1999 on TNT classic, we used to get that channel for a brief period of time... its the story about the relationship between a black man & a blind white teenager & how they meet & fall in love... that was my first poitier movie & i fell in love with him. i later watched "guess who's coming to dinner" & understood, for the 1st time, what the big deal about poitier really was! & katherine hepburn & spencer tracy are equally spectacular!

when i saw him on oprah, i was in awe. in awe of the brilliant way he could express himself (no.1 on my list of most articulate persons); how well he could talk about life's lessons learnt; his humility despite what he is today; he is one great guy.

apparently, he has authored an autobiography, "the measure of a man" & i found that my online library has it. its next on my list & i will write more after i have read it...

kudos, mr. poitier!! they don't make men like you any more!!

exam fever...

my daughter, j is in class 4. her exams started this week. this is the first time that she will be appearing for 50 marks!!

i'm sure my husband & i are more worked up about her tests than she is!! seriously, i dont know where she gets her confidence from!! the eternal optimist! wouldn't have read a single lesson thoroughly, but is confident that she'll get top marks!!

i used to fret about it a whole lot more... now, i've decided to chill & take it easy!! lets see how she fares this year!!

gotta go & at least revise social studies with her:)
